[Vietnam] Germany to fund Vietnam poverty reduction project

Thanh Nien Daily

Germany has committed €2.1 million ($2.5 million) in grant to Vietnam for phase one of a project to fight poverty in three poor provinces in the country.

The project, finalized in Hanoi yesterday, will be conducted in 12 villages of three provinces representing three regions considered to be the poorest in the country.

One is the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh, the second is the central coastal province of Thanh Hoa, and the other is the Central Highlands province of Dac Lac.

In the three-year term beginning in 2006, the project aims to help the target provinces improve policies on poverty reduction.

It also aims to improve the capacity of the staff working for poverty alleviation, especially at the grassroots level.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs represented Vietnam in signing the project, which is titled "In Support of Poverty Reduction in Vietnam," with the Germany Technical Cooperation Agency
